This idea came to me from a friend of Philip who was much talking about weak signals and the processor which was overheating. Like everything else in life, this has come with their own needs. Unlike other laptops my old Gericom had no wireless card. Therefore, I used a USB wireless adapter. The signal was so weak that I could not connect to half the AP's which my brother could connect to. This had to come to an end.
I wanted it to be clean so i used SMA connector. Here are few pictures.
This was the hardest part. I had problems with the ground. I did not know where it is.:) So I took a multimeter and check contacts and watched where the ground might be. Ground was this round but I did not want anything here. Because I'm a soldering iron on the other side of the PCB. I had to be careful because the PCB was very small and delicate.
I merged tap of the antenna on ANT1 and pins to ground. I wonder where the ANT2 is?
Here I drilled a hole through which the SMA connector goes out.
And the final product: USB Wireless Adapter with SMA connector. And yes, I took a SMA connector from an old AP, which did not work. I assume that the antenna is from the the same.
