If you've been paying attention the last couple months with Trump imposing tariffs, then subsequently pausing them, rescinding them, reinstating them, you'll quickly see that he and his administration are playing a casino game of buy low and sell high. They're doing it in plain sight. I wonder about those who fail to see what is happening.
Mind you, I am hardly a market expert. My 401k and pension disappeared along with everything else I worked for my entire life... for reasons out of my control. So definitely don't ask me for advice for stock prices or good investment choices. BUT if you're paying close attention and look at the big picture, you can easily see what is happening. The rich and powerful are seeking to gain that which they crave most: money. With money comes power, as undeserved as it may be.
What is happening is an age old facet of humanity: greed. Or as my Christian friends and family call it, "the love of money (is the root of all evil)." Today, this old atheist is going to remind them of the hypocrisy of voting for Trump and defending him with their own Bible. They don't like it when I do this, but I can hardly be faulted for sometimes knowing and understanding the holy book better than those who purport to follow its teachings.
In the first book of Timothy of the Bible, the apostle Paul is writing a letter to his homey, Timothy, who is in a Greek-founded town called Ephesus which is located in modern day Selçuk, Turkey. Timothy is there to teach and raise up the fledgling young church of believers there. Basically, it's an email from Paul to Timothy saying, Yo, bro check this out and pay attention. Paul was warning him in his letter to be aware of "false" teachings of doctrine.
As far as the Bible goes, it's fairly decent reading. Go ahead and read chapter 6. It's the chapter than has the whole "the root of all evil" and all that. I consider Paul to be an interesting character. He talks about slavery at the beginning as if it's no big deal, then talks about false teachings, the love of money. There's certainly some historical context to consider, but I've always kinda thought of Paul as an asshole. He's the one that famously wrote, "I do not allow a woman to speak." As a father of daughters and, you know, just on general principle.... wtf?
In any case verse 10 is the one you're looking for, though reading the whole chapter gives you good context. Remember it's a letter written from a teacher to a student tasked with teaching students, aka religious subjects. Basically, Paul says that rich people are assholes and should be avoided and rebuked if needed. Can't argue with that.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
If all goes well, Trump will pierce himself with many griefs. Sooner, rather than later, please. Anyhoo... Paul goes on about good old-fashioned socialist values. Make sure rich people do good deeds! Share amongst yourselves! Aside from Paul being a misogynistic bastard, I've always liked this particular section of his letter.
Feel free to share with your Christian buddies. Or not. ☮
