Book review: The Penguin Book of Chess Positions

The Penguin Book of Chess Positions. C. H. O’D. Alexander. Penguin. 1973.

Part one gives the basic elements of combination, and in part two there are 100 positions to solve. The positions are in groups of ten: "Sudden Death", "Double Attack", "Overload and Tempo", "Mating Attacks", "The End-game", "Catastrophes", "Celebrities", and three sets of "test papers". A handy little book, useful as a refresher course in basic tactics and combinations.
