Meine besten Partien 1908—1923 Aljechin. Walter de Gruyter & Co. 1929. 2., erweiterte Auflage. Berlin 1966. Mit einem Titelbild und 193 Diagrammen.
A book full of marvellous games. The energy of Alekhine's play is astounding. Originally written in French, this volume is the first of two, the other being "Auf dem Wege zur Weltmeisterschaft". Together the contain 200 of Alekhine's games, including all of games with Capablanca in their match for the world title. (see http://www.chesshistory.com/winter/winter23.html).
Curiously, this German edition is divided into three parts:
I. Turnierspiele (1-31),
II. Wettspiele, Gelegenheitspartien durch Briefwechsel, Blind- oder Simultanspiele usw. (32-89),
III. Wettpartien, Gastspiele, Beratungspartien, Simultan- und Blindlingspartien (90-100),
a division which is inaccurate and misleading. There is no problem with the
first part: 31 tournament games, from 1909 up to the outbreak of the Great
War. The problem starts with part two, which, after a number of
"Freiepartien" of various types, also contains tournament games played from
1920 on. The third part is once more correctly titled, containing 11
"Freiepartien" from the years after the war and before the title match with
Capablanca.
