Book Review: Championship Chess

Championship Chess. Botvinnik. MacGibbon & Kee Ltd. 1950. "Match Turnir na Zvanie Absolutnovo Championa S.S.R. po Shakhamatam Leningrad-Moskva 1941" First Published U.S.S.R. 1947. Translated by Stephen Garry. Descriptive notation.

The story goes that Botvinnik, the Party's darling, didn't win the Championship of the USSR in 1941 as expected, so a special "Match Tournament for the Absolute Chess Championship of the USSR" was arranged to correct this "right deviation"... Whatever about that, this book is a superb work of chess analysis, widely regarded as Botvinnik's finest work. It contains all the games of the match tournament with detailed notes, the result of three years of work by the author.
