Political Compass

Many thanks to Surfr who linked to this from his blog. I was interested to see how it rated me. And here is the result I am a left-wing libertarian and, according to this chart my closest political approximation is Ghandi. Way to go!

So Stuii, you see I really am a simpering hand-wringing liberal.

AND PROUD OF IT!

It's Good. It's Very Good!

Good morning to you all, or good evening if you're reading this in the evening.

With my memory issues resolved my computer is now behaving wonderfully. No problems since I changed all the settings, it seems to run faster (although that might just be my imagination) and is certainly far more stable. In fact it seems to be solid as a rock. Unreal Tournament has stopped randomly segfaulting in the middle of maps, even with all the settings maxed and so I played unhealthy amounts last night. It's wonderful to be able to play (probably) my favourite game of all time on my preferred operating system.

It's the way it should be really. I shouldn't have to use Windows to play a game that runs equally well on Linux. And anyone who says that Linux isn't designed for games needs dragging out into the street and shooting. Not literally you understand, merely metaphorically speaking. Dragging people out into the street and shooting them isn't in my nature. Linux makes a lovely platform for Unreal Tournament, no better and certainly no worse than Windows. In fact I am very tempted to buy UT2k3 too as that also comes with a Linux version. So does Quake, and Quake III. I'm not sure about Quake II although I'd be surprised if there isn't a version around.

And so now I think I shall purchase these games. It's always nice to have some games supported on Linux, and seeing as they're going to the trouble to release binaries for the system I feel I ought to support them and that way, hopefully, we will see more and more games being made available on Unix-like systems.

BMyCharity

I just made my donation to the Moonwalk as I only just found the email asking me to pay up in one of my lesser-used inboxes. After the payment had all gone through it gave me two numbers which I can use to identify myself with if there are any problems.

...If you have any questions, please quote these numbers, which are:

Bmycharity.com donation reference:

...

Berrrrlooody hell! How many characters is that? Um...32 characters! I can just imagine ringing them when I find £150 has gone from my account rather than £15.

* O = Operator, M = Me.

O: BMyCharity, how can I help?

M: Oh hi. I've just checked my bank statement and too much money was taken from my account.

O: Ok, can I take your reference number please?

M: Yeah sure... F

O: S?

M: No. F. F for Freddy.

O: Ok.

M: F44D6FFD...

O: F44B6FFB?

M: No. D. D for dog.

O: Is that one D or two Ds?

M: 2 Ds.

...and so on.

Finally, A Big Shaaaht Aaahhht

In true DJ stylee I agreed to give a shout out to Nathan in my blog. So, um, hello Nathan.

Funnily enough it turns out that my colleague Matt actually lives in the house that Nathan used to live in when he lived in Aberystwyth. Not only that, but it then transpired that he lives in the very room that Nathan used to live in! Weird, eh?

Memory Fixed

I have fixed the memory problems I was suffering before. It turns out the cycle length setting in the BIOS was wrong, so I have been able to bump the speed up to "Turbo" and it's still steady as a rock. And ... best of all ... Unreal Tournament now runs properly! YAY! Funny how a game should turn out to be a game that outlines the memory problems. It was only because of a suggestion that my memory might be fooked in the FAQ of the Linux-UT that I went to all this trouble, and waddaya know ... it was the memory.

Now to get back to some more glorious shooty goodness before I delete 16 people from my MSN budy list and then go to bed at 11.

What have I got to do

...to make people read and act upon this ? It's a simple request. People have had a month to read the document and act upon it, yet there are still 16 people who haven't. The aim of the game was not really to delete people so much, more to get the people I don't know on my MSN list to fecking tell me who they are.

But I don't make idle threats. If you DON'T say something to me by 11pm tonight I will delete you from my list and remove you from my "allowed" list. That means you ... Noel, Rai, Ian H, blingBling, TMulloy, Kat W, Imran, bearsamks, Rees, foobar, Alan Woodland, Randy, Matt G, and Farah.

All you have to say is something. Anything ffs.

Internet Boy 'Posed As Spy to Arrange Own Murder'

That is quite possibly the most fucked up thing I have ever read. And to think that it happened in the UK, it sounds more like the crazy shit we hear about from America. And, even more scary, to think that Liz could have ended up living in Altrincham with crazy shit like that happening.

Orkut

I just logged into Orkut and saw I had 113 unread messages. Hmm. One of them was an invite to Project-Blog 2004 which actually sounds like quite a good idea. Not sure if I will do it or not yet though. The week following it is the final week in which I can finish the website and so I don't want to be tired when all hell breaks loose (as it inevitably will).

Another Year...

When I arrived at work this morning there was a letter waiting for me. Seems the department are offering me my job for another year. My boss knows nothing of it, so he suspects someone cocked up somewhere in Personnel.

Last night I ran Memtest-86 on my home PC as I'm tired of it randomly crashing. Last night it kept bombing out of Unreal Tournament with SEGFAULT errors and the best suggestion I could find on the Linux-UT website was "maybe your memory is dead". So I installed and ran Memtest and was horrified to see twenty thousand errors.

Just. Bloody. Great.

Woohoo, I'm back

May the world celebrate the return of Lowey. I'm not going to write about the entire holiday right now as it is a long long tale and because I'm bloody hungry and want to go and make myself something to eat. In fact I think I'll go do that, but before I do I shall leave you with an odd tale.

On my way back to Aberystwyth today I was driving down the A40 at about 75 Mph. Ahead of me I saw a police van with the well known speed camera logo on it, so I dropped my speed to dead on 70 Mph. The van pulled into a lay-by and stopped, I thought they were about to set up the mobile speed camera. However, much to my surprise, two naked blokes came running out from behind the trees at the side of the road and ran to the police van. They were completely naked apart from what looked like large cardboard sheets wrapped around them. The cardboard made it look as if they had been protesting about something somewhere, but there was no writing as far as I could see.

The things you see on the road, eh?

Holiday

Well hello! Bet you weren't expecting to see me blogging on my holiday, eh? :) Well Liz is off taking her diving exam and I've been left to guard the house like a good dog. Or something.

Anyway my main reason for blogging is that I want to congratulate Liz on completing the Moonwalk in 7 hours and 20 minutes! I drove into London (the HORROR) to collect her as there are no trains running at that time of the day.

That's all I'm saying for now, I'll write up the details of the holiday when I get back from the holiday.

My god, Liz needs a new keyboard. Damned space bar.

A Message For My Fellow Llamasofties:

I am utterly offended! You've all completely offended me, and therefore I shall not be back for the next two weeks (my holiday has nothing to do with it at all, honest).

So completely offended ...
