Welcome to our new project, the Atari Jabber Network.
Our main focus is to provide a free Network for Atarians mainly
based on the Jabber Network
So, why should i use Jabber? Jabber/XMPP is a free,
Open Source, and open-standard communications protocol and is
developed by the Jabber open-source community. Designed to be
extensible, the protocol today also finds application in VoIP and
file transfer signaling.
Jabber has some unique feature
Jabber has a decentral network. The network uses a client - server
architecture. Clients do not connect direct to each other.
Jabber is more secure
Jabber offers client-to-server, server-to-server-, server-to-client
encryption which disables man-in-the-middle attacks for example. To
boost this funktion, Jabber is able to use Off-the-Record (OTR)
Messaging. OTR allows you to have private conversations over
instant messaging by providing:
Encryption
No one else can read your instant messages.
Authentication
You are assured the correspondent is who you think it is.
Deniability
The messages you send do not have digital signatures that are
checkable by a third party. Anyone can forge messages after a
conversation to make them look like they came from you. However,
during a conversation, your correspondent is assured the messages
he sees are authentic and unmodified.
Perfect forward secrecy
If you lose control of your private keys, no previous conversation
is compromised.
Flexibility
Custom functionality can be built on top of XMPP; to maintain
interoperability, common extensions are managed by the XMPP
Software Foundation. XMPP applications beyond IM include network
management, content syndication, collaboration tools, file sharing,
gaming, and remote systems monitoring
How can i join
All you need is a Jabber Client ( see here ). After you have it
installed, create a new account in your client and use
atari-jabber.org as server. Choose yourself your name and
password.
If you have already have a client, do the obove steps
without installing ;o)
Have Fun!
